: Perception of reality
I am amazed by how fallible is my perception of reality. I have spent 6 hours staring at the spelling "hanukka" and "hanukkah" and not seeing the difference. I knew the bug in my program must be related to inconsistent spelling of the word, but I thought my mistake would be either with the double n's or double k's, which matched in both spellings. I never *thought* of the last "h", and therefore it didn't exist in my world. WYSIWYG: What You See Is What You Get ? No, WYTIWYS: What You Think Is What You See. 28th October 200727th October 2007

: Things learned on my Europe trip
1. In Zurich airport, escalators slow down when no one is walking on them, they move very slowly only to show that they are working. The moment someone steps on them their speed smoothly increases to a normal speed. The folowing posts are about France (Paris): 2. Everything is smaller here. The elevator in the apartment complex I live in fits at most two people, to the point that they have to touch each other. 3. They don't leave tips here, but they say "merci" a million times. 4. I saw a drinking cup with round bottom, so it's as if it is falling, but it doesn't actually fall. 5. Furniture in the apartments is old, wooden. Like in Russia. 6. Toilet paper is pink. 22nd September 2007
